This program is a collaboration between the SJRC and EXP Makerspace and is a part of Peace and Social Justice Week under the theme of “Cultivating Care: Resistance, Rest, Joy”. The program of “Art as Resistance” will include a workshop centered around the question “How can art be considered a form of resistance?”. It will cover examples of different forms of visual displays of art (street art, clothing, pins, etc.) and the intersection of art, individual identity, community, activism, and resistance. The program will also allow those who come to get introduced to the EXP makerspace through Orientation and the ability to explore the space and use equipment to create one’s own form of art as a form of resistance to take with you and contribute to a large community quilt that will be created.
