Person sanding wood on a spindle sander A stack of multiple birch plywood sheets.

Spindle Sander

A spindle sander has a cylinder of sandpaper that rotates at different speeds. This is great for sanding off very tight curves and details that would be difficult to do on a belt/disc sander or by hand. The spindles come in various widths and grits and can easily be changed out to suit your needs.

Safety Considerations

  • Watch your fingers: It’s easy to scrape your fingers against the spindle when doing fine detail work.
  • Keep stock secured on the table: unsecured stock can be dangerous and can fly off the table.
