Cutting a piece of wood on a band saw Cutting a shape out on a band saw

Vertical Bandsaw

A vertical bandsaw is used to cut curved lines into pieces of wood. A band saw uses a long, thin band that rotates around very quickly, exposing only a little bit of the saw to the user. Typically sanding is needed to perfect your cuts.

Safety Considerations

  • Never put your fingers in the path of the blade: use a push stick if necessary.
  • If you accidentally bind the blade, turn off the machine before backing your part out.
  • Don’t use your hands to remove scrap material while the bandsaw is running.
