This past April, first-year engineering students completed various projects as part of their cumulative project for Cornerstone I and II. Team “Wyverns” was tasked with building a travelling space-themed museum exhibit for elementary-aged students.
The team, consisting of first-year engineering students Paxton Nithikasem, Gabriela Pires, Anton Persson, and Fiona Pang, created a museum exhibit in which children build block structures that are tested under Mars-like conditions, such as Marsquakes and windstorms. The exhibit was designed to show the possibilities of space exploration to children in underserved STEM communities.
The team utilized multiple tools at EXP Makerspace, including the CO2 laser cutters for structural components, the vinyl cutter to add stickers to UI buttons, FDM 3D printers to test prototypes, and the large-format plotter printer to print the poster graphics.
